CERI was established to provide an independent and objective
source of analysis and commentary on the international and
domestic energy scene. The existence of CERI ensures this
source of independent thinking remains available to governments,
corporations, and the public.
In the context of particular research studies, CERI's objective
fact-finding activities, guided by multi-party steering committees,
provide an opportunity for interaction between government
and industry in a non-confrontational, productive environment.
This interaction can lead to more effective policy that is
broadly acceptable to all. There is no other organization
in Canada that addresses this role with respect to energy.
Members of the Private Sector Sponsors also receive the following
specific benefits:
- A summary volume for each major CERI multi-client study
(the number of complimentary copies varies with company
size);
- Access at preferential rates to CERI's energy professionals
for forecasts, information and advice;
- Access to specialized retainer services, at preferential
rates, providing in-depth outlooks for markets and commodity
pricing through in-house briefing presentations.
- A subscription to the monthly CERI Commodity Report -
Natural Gas
- A subscription to the monthly CERI Commodity Report -
Crude Oil
- A subscription to the monthly Geopolitics of Energy
- Reduced fees for CERI conferences and
special events;
- Invitations to Private Sector Sponsors dinners, featuring
well-regarded speakers on issues of current importance to
the industry;
- Participation in setting the Institute's research agenda
through Private Sector Sponsors representation on the CERI
board;
During the 2005/2006 fiscal year we released two major research
studies:
- The Economic Impact of Alberta's Oil Sands Industry
- Cogeneration Opportunities and Energy Requirements for Canadian Oil Sands Projects
We also recently released:
- Socio-Economic Impact of Horseshoe Canyon Coalbed Methane Development in Alberta
- Economic Impacts of LNG Imports to Atlantic Canada
- Oil Sands Industry Update: Production Outlook and Supply Costs 2006-2020
- Capacity of the Western Canada Natural Gas Pipeline System
Future releases:
- Coalbed Methane: Potential Supply and Costs of Natural Gas from Coal Seams in Western Canada
- The Economic Impacts of Significant Wind Power Development Across Canada
- The Economics Of an East-West Canadian Electricity Grid
The essential results of these studies are provided
to the members of CERI at no charge and yet they rank as major
works that would normally cost $25,000 to $35,000 each in
a multi-client format. We also completed several projects
last year that were requested on a confidential basis by specific
members. In addition, CERI staff have been active as ambassadors
from the energy sector to the public and government through
over two dozen presentations on all aspects of energy and
environmental issues. The audiences for these presentations
included the International Energy Agency, U.S. Department
of Energy, United Nations Environment Program, Climate Change
Secretariat, Nuclear Waste Management Organization, and the
Senate's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
