The burning of fossil fuels for energy has been a major contributor to the changing of the earth’s climate through the gradual increase in greenhouse gases (GHGs), primarily carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases serve to increase the average temperature of the earth’s surface by trapping outgoing radiation.
