In 2010, for the second consecutive year, the United States was the largest global producer of natural gas. According to BP’s 2011 Statistical Review of World Energy, the US produced an average of 59.1 BCFPD of natural gas, exceeding production from the Russian Federation by approximately 4 percent, or 2.1 BCFPD. Natural gas processing requirements have increased significantly in the US, in line with the country’s growth in natural gas production. This article will review the change in US natural gas processing capabilities between 2004 and 2009, and highlight future opportunities in two liquids rich shale gas plays.
